A fomo wallet carries a mark on chain that ordinary wallets do not. That mark is what we read — we never ask you for anything.

A nonce-bound message proves you hold the key rather than just knowing an address. Nothing is broadcast, nothing costs gas.

The key is looked up in the fomo.family wallet index. Found, and the tables open. Not found, and you stay a spectator.
